Hope Centre (Singapore) is a voluntary welfare organisation (VWO) which works with challenged youths and families, empowering them through service-learning based projects and programmes. With its vision of nurturing youth to be dream achievers, Hope Centre reaches out to youths at risk. With various character development programmes such as yREACH and yME, Hope Centre helps youths to increase self understanding, self worth and significance, strengthen their social and emotional resilience, and discover for themselves the long term benefits of building up in the right character and values. These are just some of the programmes and sessions conducted by Hope Centre, among others such as counselling services, parental guidance workshops and events that help bring the family closer.
They are constantly working to adequately meet the holistic needs of both youth and youth-at-risk aged between 13 to 20 years old, and the family units they belong to. Hope Centre's goal is to progressively move toward services that lead to greater community development and we are working towards starting a Youth Centre in Sengkang or Punggol. Their paradigm for turning Youth to be purposeful contributors for good in society involves 5 steps summarised by the acronym D.R.E.A.M.
Dare to dream – we believe Youth ought to have a clear idea of what they can be in life and want to help them discover it.
Realign their path – we hope to help Youth understand their uniqueness and how to channel their energy and creativity positively with their dream in mind.
Engage in truth – we collaborate with Youth to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and know how to make their dream come true.
Anticipate their problems – we empower Youth to cope with the reality of failure and how to fail forward toward their dream.
Manage their successes – we aim to sustain them on the path of repeated success by helping other Youth fulfil their dreams.
History
Hope Centre is a volunteer welfare organization (ROS 0276/96WEL) birthed in 1997 by 6 young professionals who not only shared friendship but a strong conviction to develop generations of young people committed to enhancing the lives of the urban poor in Singapore and beyond.
The original 6 consisting of an accountant, a dental surgeon, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, a public affairs executive and a violin instructor - put in hours after work, three times a week, to organise fund-raising events. Their first projects included a May Day clean-up along the East Coast beach, a musical for youths and a blood donation drive.
Since then, Hope Centre has expanded its multinational volunteer base to around 1000 strong, ranging from youth to young families. It primarily focuses its efforts on empowering both youths and young families through service-learning based projects and programmes in the North East region.
Hope Centre has been granted charitable status (Charity Registration no. 1308) and is a member of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). They are also on board the Family Life Ambassador (FLA) programme. We invite you to join us in the journey of nurturing our youths to be dream achievers and helping challenged families in Singapore
